These 6 Clothing Brands Offer Repair Services

The most sustainable clothes are the ones you already have — this is the essence of sustainable fashion. So how can you extend the life of clothes you already have? When you find a small hole in your favorite t-shirt, try repairing it yourself. For more complicated fixes, you can turn to your local tailor.

To simplify the repair process, several brands now offer their own repair services. Here are 6 sustainable brands that offer repair services:

Patagonia

Free lifetime repairs (very few exceptions) | Offers send-in for repair, in-store repair, repair kits and guides

Patagonia offers one of the most comprehensive repair services among sustainable brands. For DIY repairs, it provides repair guides and videos on the website. The brand sells two repair options: a wallet-sized Field Repair Kit and a Repair Roll containing tools for any gear failure. Customers can either visit stores or mail items for repair. While Patagonia covers most repair costs, any uncovered repairs range from $20 to $80 — still more economical than replacement.

REI

Paid | Offers in-store repair, partnerships with repair providers, repair guides and kits

REI offers repair services for almost all of its products. While REI stores have dedicated ski, snowboard, and bike repair shops, it partners with specialists for other products. For outdoor clothing and gear repairs, it works with Rainy Pass Repair, Inc., a GORE-TEX® Authorized Repair Center. For footwear repairs, it recommends Dave Page, Cobbler — a company with over 90 years of combined experience in footwear repair.

Speaking of footwear repair, brands like Veja and Vivobarefoot also offer repair services for their shoes.

Cotopaxi

Free (under warranty) and paid after that | Offers send-in for repair and in-store repair

Cotopaxi offers free repairs during the warranty period and paid repairs afterward. For basic fixes, you can contact Cotopaxi directly. For more complex repairs, it partners with Rugged Thread, a women-led company renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship.

Nudie Jeans

Free lifetime repairs | Offers in-store repair

Every pair of Nudie Jeans comes with a promise of lifetime repairs. You can get your jeans repaired for free as many times as you want. Whether you need hemming or a hole repair, the brand will handle it all. Nudie Jeans does not have the option to send in for repairs but there are multiple Nudie Jeans Repair Shops or Repair Partners across the globe. There’s also a moving mobile repair station that travels around the world making repairs on the spot.

Asket

Free (if you do it yourself) | Offers repair kits

Asket takes a unique approach to repairs. When you have a loose button or a hole in your Asket apparel, you can request spare parts directly from the brand. The brand supplies all the essentials to extend your garment's life — from buttons and thread to zippers and fabric patches. You can then repair yourself using its repair guides or take the parts to a local tailor.

Arc’teryx

Free under limited warranty | Offers send-in for repair

Arc'teryx provides free repairs for products under its limited warranty, which lasts 1-3 years from the purchase date. The brand has a dedicated worldwide repair team that keeps its gear out of landfills. To start a repair, submit an online request with details and photos. Once approved, you can ship your item to Arc'teryx. While you'll need to pay for shipping to them, the brand will cover both the repair costs and return shipping.
