How Sustainable is Aloha?

Protein is the central building block that our bodies need to create energy and live an active, healthy life. Traditionally, we have relied on animal-based products like beef, lamb, and dairy products to fulfill our protein requirements. But these animal-based products are one of the highest emitters of greenhouse gases.

According to a 2020 research, beef emits 25 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent (kgCO₂e) per 100 grams. Lamb follows it with 20 kgCO₂eq, farmed shrimp with 10 kgCO₂eq, and cheese with 8.4 kgCO₂eq.

On the other hand, plant-based protein sources such as tofu (1.6 kgCO₂eq), beans (0.65 kgCO₂eq), peas (0.36 kgCO₂eq), and nuts (-0.8 kgCO₂eq) are more planet friendly.

Aloha is using these plant-based protein sources to create a range of natural and healthy options that can substitute animal-based protein sources without compromising on health and taste.

About Aloha's vegan product line

Aloha exclusively offers plant-based food in the form of vegan protein bars, protein drinks, and protein powders. It also serves ready-to-drink protein beverage that is packed with 20g of plant-based protein.

Taste, texture, and real, pronounceable ingredients on the back of the pack are differentiators when it comes to food. Aloha ensures that these factors are not lost, making it easier for people to transition to a plant-based meal.

It is an employee-owned and operated company where all the employees have skin in the game to build the brand and the business. It is also listed as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) which preserves a company’s mission and prioritizes social good alongside growth.

What makes Aloha sustainable?

One of the most convenient ways to have a positive impact on the planet is by moving to a more plant-based diet. Through its plant-based products that can be consumed on the go, Aloha is empowering consumers to make that change.

  • Plant-based supplements help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce methane emissions that come from livestock (cow burps and farts are a thing!), require less energy, water, and land resources and help stabilize the ocean, which protects rainforests and lands.
  • It has also partnered with Kupu, a leading charitable organization in Hawai’i, to foster the next generation of environmental and cultural stewards.
  • For its protein powder boxes, Aloha uses sustainable, post-consumer recycled plastic.
