5 Easy DIY Deodorant Recipes

Traditional deodorants often contain harmful chemicals like phthalates and VOCs that can affect hormonal health and trigger respiratory issues. They also typically use petrochemical-based ingredients and plastic packaging that harm the environment.

So you can either invest in safe, sustainable brands or make your own natural, vegan, and sustainable DIY deodorant.

Here are five homemade deodorant recipes that are easy to make and effective:

Coconut Oil & Baking Soda Deodorant (Basic & Effective)

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 3 tbsp arrowroot powder or cornstarch
  • 5-10 drops essential oil (lavender, tea tree, or peppermint)

Instructions:

  1. Mix baking soda and arrowroot powder in a bowl.
  2. Add coconut oil and mix until smooth.
  3. Stir in essential oil.
  4. Store in a small jar and apply with fingers.

Shea Butter & Bentonite Clay Deodorant (Gentle & Detoxifying)

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp shea butter
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp arrowroot powder
  • 1 tbsp bentonite clay
  • 5-10 drops essential oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Melt shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in arrowroot powder and bentonite clay.
  3. Add essential oils and mix well.
  4. Store in a jar and apply as needed.

Magnesium Oil Deodorant Spray (Great for Odor Control & Magnesium Boost)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup distilled water
  • 2 tbsp magnesium chloride flakes
  • 5-10 drops essential oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat water and dissolve magnesium flakes.
  2. Let it cool and add essential oils.
  3. Pour into a spray bottle and apply as needed.

Cocoa Butter Stick Deodorant (Solid & Non-Greasy)

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp cocoa butter
  • 2 tbsp beeswax (or candelilla wax for a vegan version)
  • 2 tbsp arrowroot powder
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 5-10 drops of essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Melt cocoa butter and wax in a double boiler.
  2. Remove from heat and mix in arrowroot powder and baking soda.
  3. Add essential oils and pour into an empty deodorant tube.
  4. Let it harden before use.

Aloe Vera & Witch Hazel Deodorant (Cooling & Lightweight)

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup aloe vera gel
  • ¼ cup witch hazel
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 5-10 drops essential oil (tea tree or lemon)

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle.
  2. Shake well before use.
  3. Spray directly on armpits.
